Lleida and its medieval past

These days we are bit busy because we are moving to a new flat but one week ago we had some free days and we decided to make a quick visit to the Catalan province of Lleida. We really needed some relax! 🙂

Lleida (whose capital has the same name) is the fourth and less populated province of Catalonia, after Barcelona, Tarragona and Girona. But the city of Lleida has a medieval complex (La Seu Vella) which has been the scenario of some historical highlights of Catalonia while the entire province is known for its natural and agricultural importance.

Andorra, snow and Christmas time

Andorra, the country of the Pyrenees. This is how Andorra sells itself to the world. Andorra la Vella is the highest capital in Europe with its 1023m above sea level. Its economy is linked to banking and mountain sports like skiing in winter with two of the best ski resorts in Europe: Grandvalira and Vallnord. It is a popular destination for people from Catalonia and France, as it has border with both countries and the low taxes attract crowds of people from the closest metropoli: Barcelona. Shopping is one of the main attractions of this diminute country in the middle of the mountains.

We spent last weekend doing shopping, sightseeing and visiting Romanesque churches in Andorra. But our starting point was La Seu d’Urgell, the last town in Catalonia before crossing the border. In La Seu d’Urgell we slept in the Parador, an amazing rural hotel with a fantastic cloister. Temperatures were between 0ºC and -14ºC all the weekend and the landscapes were full of snow. Do you want to discover Andorra with us?

The snowy and rocky giants in the Pyrenees

While you read this post we are in our adventure trip in Namibia. During these days it is difficult for us to connect to answer comments and share thoughts. However, don’t stop doing them. We will read them asap! Today we should be around Swakopmund where we had planned a 4×4 excursion to the Skeleton Coast, a jet flight above Namib desert and a horse riding through a Moon landscape. Soon you’ll read about this! See you soon!

Alps? Andes? Himalaya? No, Pyrenees!

Pyrenees are unknown for many people around the world. This mountain range that separates Spain and France has many places that don’t envy the greatest ranges in the world. One of the most beautiful landscapes is Aigüestortes in the National Park with the same name. It is located in Lleida province, Catalonia, and offers peaks higher than 3000m, frozen lakes and old glacier valleys. We organized a family trip with snow rackets in one spring day.
